"Only to the white man was nature a 'wilderness'."
Feb 10 - Green Jobs BC, Vancouver
On Friday February 10th GreenJobs BC is hosting a day-long (9:00am - 4:30pm) Forum on Retrofits and Building at the Coast Plaza Hotel in Vancouver. The Forum is about creating good green jobs in British Columbia. We'll explore the fastest way to lower green house gases, while building thousands of new good-paying green jobs. Retrofits, deconstruction, and the green building sector present BC with an amazing opportunity to take action on climate change and build a strong local economy.
The morning will feature four regional and local case studies including:
- The T'Sou-ke First Nation community in Sooke is the largest solar powered community energy project in the province, and will discuss how their successful project came together and the impact it has had in their community.
- A Vancouver based deconstruction pilot project with partners including Pacific Community Resources Society and the City of Vancouver will present the impact of their pilot project, potential waste diversion, job training for at risk youth, and economic development opportunities created with deconstruction.
The afternoon will give participants an opportunity to break into smaller workshops with expert panellists based on the four key themes of the Forum:
- Training & Education
- Financing Solutions
- Standards & Certifications
- Policy & Community
